Volunteer Quick Facts

  • Volunteer Work shifts during the Festival are approximately 4 hours.
  • All volunteers will check in  via cell phone or at Deja Brew (101 W. 4th Street, Bethlehem) 5 - 10 minutes prior to their shift.
  • Benefits of Volunteering: Each volunteer gets a T-shirt to wear during their shift.
  • All volunteers are also invited to attend the Closing Night Party.

Ushers
Ushers play many roles for the Southside Film Festival: You’re the host of the show, the ticket taker and the program distributor. You are the face of the Southside Film Festival.
Primary responsibilities:
1. Show up Early! (At least 15 minutes before each shift.)
2. Familiarize yourself with the building layout as noted above.
3. Read about the film(s) to be screened during your shift.
4. Standard Usher duties - Take tickets, seat patrons, monitor door. (See "How Screenings Work" in Volunteer Handbook)
5. Please pick up any trash or old programs lying about the theater after the film screening.
6. It is important to be pleasant to all patrons. Please remember that you are representing not only yourself, but the SouthSide Film Festival itself! If the attendees have a good experience with you, they will have a great time at the festival.
7. When asked questions about a specific film or about the festival in general, answer to the best of your ability. If you cannot answer a question, politely state that you don’t have an answer and refer them to the House Manager or the nearest SSFF Board Member. A list of names and phone numbers will be provided with your volunteer credentials.

Ticket & Merchandise Table
A volunteer must be present at the merchandise table at all times.
Primary responsibilities:
1. Show up Early! (At least 15 minutes before each shift.)
2. Familiarize yourself with the building layout as noted above.
3. Read about the film(s) to be screened during your shift.
4. Keep the Film Festival programs and publicity materials neat and organized.
5. Sell tickets and SSFF merchandise. Take a moment before your shift to familiarize yourself with the SSFF swag and prices.
6. Credit Card sales accepted at Deja Brew and Cleo's only. No Checks.

Concierge
The Concierge is responsible for Festival Hospitality. You are the face of the festival to our visiting filmmakers. This is an all-day position that requires a friendly disposition (even after you've been there all day).
Primary responsibilities:
1. Show up Early!
2. Filmmaker check-in (Distribute passes and swag; Escort to Filmmaker Village.)
3. Answer questions about the festival and about Southside Bethlehem.
4. Help with ticket and merchandise sales.

Tuesday, June 14
Opening Night Party (Venue TBA) and Screening (Venue TBA):
5:45PM - 7:30PM Party
7:30PM - 10:30PM Screening - 2 Merch/Tix and 2 Ushers

Wednesday, June 15
3 venues:
5:00PM - 11PM (2 shifts at each venue. Start Times 5:00 and 8:00)
2 Tix/Merch and 1 Usher needed per each shift.

Thursday, June 16
3 venues:
5:00PM - 11PM (2 shifts at each venue. Start Times 5:00 and 8:00)
2 Tix/Merch and 1 Usher needed per each shift.

Friday, June 17
3 venues
5:00PM - 11PM (2 shifts at each venue. Start Times 5:00 and 8:00)
2 Tix/Merch and 1 Usher needed per each shift.
Late night screening: 11:00PM - 1 Tix/Merch and 1 Usher

Saturday, June 18
3 venues:
1:00PM - 9:20PM (3 shifts at each venue. Start Times 1:00PM, 4:00PM and 6:30PM)
2 Tix/Merch and 1 Usher needed per each shift.
Note: The last screening ends at 9:20PM

Closing Night Party - Venue TBA (9PM - 1AM):
1 Shift: 8:00PM (until 10:00PM) - Need 2 Tickets/Merch

Children’s Film Festival Dates: Opening Night - Thursday, June 16
Screenings on Friday June 13 and Saturday June 14
Shift Start Times 9:45AM and 12:45PM (Last film ends at about 4:00PM)
3 persons needed per each shift -
Responsibilities:
Audio Visual: 1 person to operate the AV equipment. This person would need to make sure the DVD player is working, the proper DVD is playing for the correct block, the films are projecting properly and the sound is clear.
Popcorn: 1 - 2 people to make popcorn
Floater: 1 person to welcome people, provide instructions, help with seating, etc.
